GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The General Services Department is a service Department created in the year 2014 by the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) vide Circular Ref No: HCSF/CMO/EM/243/17 dated 11th March, 2014 and became a full-fledged Department in the Federal Ministry of Education in April, 2018.

It is responsible for the routine maintenance and servicing of all moveable and immoveable assets in the Ministry. The principal objective of the department is to provide a conducive and friendly environment for government business for optimal service delivery and general well-being of staff. It has staff strength of 94 personnel.

2.0  MISSION

  • To provide leadership and best practices in managing facilities, supplies, security and resource conservation, maintenance and other support services.

3.0   STRUCTURE

  • The Department is headed by a Director and has the under listed Divisions which is currently headed by a Deputy Director: –

The general mandate of the Department is as follows:

  1. To supervise the maintenance of facilities or equipment in the Federal Secretariat complex phase II such as sewage system, lifts/elevators, electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, painting etc.
  2. Overseeing the general maintenance of the FME complex.
  • Supervision and maintenance of utility vehicles, management of drivers, mechanics and works superintendents.
  1. Ensuring the coordination of cleaning activities by service providers.
  2. Coordination of general security within the FME complex.
  3. Facilitating allocation of halls in the FME Complex for official functions.
  • Allocation of car parking lots in the FME complex.
  • Custodian of the stores, stocking of items and distributions to end users in line with the Financial Regulations (FR).
