DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SUPPORT SERVICES

1. Introduction

The Department of Education Support Services is responsible for providing critical support functions that facilitate the effective implementation of national education policies.

The Department oversees essential services, including Certificate Evaluation and Accreditation, National and International Partnerships, School Support Services, Sports and Health Education, Exam Ethics and Campus Safety, and Guidance and Counselling.

The Department offers the following services, among others:

i. Evaluation: For the assessment of foreign qualifications obtained abroad to determine their Nigerian equivalence for NYSC mobilisation, employment, or other official purposes.

ii. Authentication: For the verification of Nigerian academic and professional qualifications for further studies or use abroad.

iii. Eligibility Letter / Letter of English Proficiency: For confirming suitability for the issuance of an Eligibility Letter or Letter of English Proficiency for admission into academic institutions abroad or for employment purposes.

iv. No Objection: For the issuance of a Letter of No Objection to educational institutions or organisations for purposes including establishment, programmes, partnerships, or other related educational activities.

Important Notes:

i. The application process is fully online. Applicants are not required to visit the Ministry physically for verification.

ii. For Evaluation and Authentication applications, applicants must request their awarding institutions to forward official academic transcripts directly from the institution’s official email address to:

a. cert.evaluation@education.gov.ng (for evaluation applications), or

b. cert.authentication@education.gov.ng (for authentication applications)

iii WAEC and NECO results are verified online via the WAEC/NECO API using a valid scratch card PIN purchased by the applicant.

iv. All uploaded documents must be clear, legible scanned copies in approved formats. The number of pages declared must correspond exactly with the original documents.

v. All payments are non-refundable and are calculated based on the total number of pages submitted.

2. Application Procedure

Step 1: Access the Application Portal

i. Visit the official portal: essverify.education.gov.ng

ii. Create a new account using a valid email address.

iii. Verify your email address.

iv. Log in to the portal.

Step 2: Start the Application

i. Select the appropriate application type:

a. Evaluation

b. Authentication

c. Eligibility/English Proficiency

d. No Objection

ii. Complete all required personal and other information fields accurately.

Step 3: Provide Qualification and Supporting Document Details

i. Select (tick) the applicable qualifications and/or supporting documents from the list provided.

ii. Indicate the number of pages for each relevant document to be uploaded.

iii. Payment shall be calculated based on the total number of pages selected.

Step 3: Make Payment

i. Generate the Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) code.

ii. Pay the prescribed non-refundable fee through any Remita-enabled channel (bank, card, USSD, etc.).

iii. Wait for payment confirmation on the portal before proceeding.

Step 4: Upload Documents

i. After payment confirmation, upload clear scanned copies of all required documents.

ii. Ensure that all uploads are legible, in the specified formats, and correspond to the declared number of pages.

iii. Uploads containing more pages than the number declared at the time of payment shall be rejected, and an error message will be displayed.

iv. Verification of WAEC and NECO results shall be conducted via the WAEC/NECO API using a valid scratch card PIN purchased by the applicant for online retrieval of results.

Step 5: Request and Submission of Official Transcript

i. After successfully uploading all required documents, the portal will redirect the applicant to a page instructing them to contact their awarding institution to forward their academic transcript directly from the institution’s official email address to the following: a. cert.evaluation@education.gov.ng (for evaluation applications), or

b. cert.authentication@education.gov.ng (for authentication applications)

ii. Upon receipt of the transcript, the portal will automatically redirect the applicant to the “Awaiting Evaluation” or “Awaiting Authentication” status page, depending on the application type.
