Introduction:

The General Duties (GD) Division of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) is primarily saddled with the responsibility of Administrative duties of the Board, Organizing Coordinating Committee Meeting (CCM) of Federal and States Secretaries of Scholarship Board, Coordinates the Zonal offices of the Board that are in Six (6) zones namely; North Central (Minna), North East (Bauchi), North West (Gusau), South East (Enugu), South South (Port-Harcourt) and South West (Akure) and Presidential Special Scholarship Awards to NYSC EX-Corps and PRESSID (Presidential Special Scholarship for Innovation and Development) to study Masters’ Degree up to PhD level  in top 25 University in the World which was inherited from National Universities Commission (NUC). The scholarship awards are leading to Masters and PhD studies.

The activities of the Division Includes the following:

i)   Prompt attendance to all Administrative duties e.g preparation of Board’s Nominal roll, Annual leave roster, internal posting, acknowledge general correspondence to the Board etc.

ii)    Inform Zonal offices of the Scholarship activities that needs to be circulated to states under the zones for the indigenes to participate.

iii)  Organizes Annual Coordinating Committee Meeting of Federal and States Secretaries of Scholarship Boards. This is a forum where FSB present the list of successful candidates of each state to the state Scholarship Board secretaries, share ideas on how to improve on award of Scholarship to eligible and successful candidates.

Objectives of the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme:

The schemes were designed to create a critical mass of highly skilled Nigeria Youths that will drive economic growth and national development.

i)Postgraduate Scholarship.

The Eligibility for Presidential Special Scholarship Awards Scheme

PRESSID & NYSC EX-Corps:

All Ph.D and Masters’ Degree applicants (PRESSID) should hold a Masters’ Degree and First Degree with First Class (1St Class) only, while (EX-Corps) are awardees with various Classes of Degrees including Merit in HND and must have completed N.Y.S.C.

ii)   Fields of Study:

Natural sciences, Medicine and Medicine related courses, Environmental science, Geology, Petroleum related courses, Social science, Law, International Relations, Languages, etc.

iii)           Verification/Monitoring of Scholars:

A high level Ministerial delegation goes on Verification Exercise to monitor the academic progress, welfare and accounts records of PRESSID and EX-Corps Scholars in the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Europe and Canada. Moreover, scholars have unresolved issues pertaining to their scholarship awards. During these visits necessary counselling and supports are rendered accordingly. Consultations with relevant partners in countries visited are engaged and all vital documents to enhance the scholarship implementation process in Nigeria are also obtained.

Value of the Award:

The value of award differs from country to country, location of the institution in the country and the course of study.
